What will I learn?

Education majors contribute to the transformation of society by helping others become lifelong learners who respond compassionately to the world around them.

As a teacher, you help children and young people find meaning and purpose in their lives in a loving and respectful learning community. You hold a special position to help develop your students’ abilities and dispositions. At TWU, we help you to develop the skills you need to nurture your students’ academic, social, and emotional growth.

Our school of education offers:

Elementary, middle, or secondary school programs

A five-year concurrent BA/BEd or BSc/BEd program

A two-year post-degree BEd program

A special education minor (as a teachable subject area)

An education concentration or minor for that pursuing teacher certification

A Master of Arts in Education Studies—special education

Teacher certification

Both our concurrent and post-degree BEd programs are approved by the BC Teacher Regulation Branch and lead to recommendation for a British Columbia Professional Certificate of Qualification— valid at all grade levels—issued by the BC Teacher Regulation Branch (BCTRB, the provincial teacher certification authority).

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Our graduates are teaching in a wide variety of educational settings locally, nationally and internationally. Most of our graduates seek and gain employment as Teachers On Call or as part time and full time classroom teachers in public schools and independent schools. Other graduates choose to work in non-traditional educational settings such as churches, museums, or camps.

International students who complete their teacher certification at TWU are eligible to work in the Lower Mainland area for three years after graduation, under the Canadian Graduate Work Permit Program, if offered employment by a Canadian school district or independent school.
