Summary

The Human Resources Management program is a one-year graduate certificate designed for university and college graduates looking for a career in human resources. This program provides you with functional knowledge in core areas of human resources: recruitment and selection, training and development, human resources planning, occupational health and safety, organizational behavior, finance and accounting, principles in human resources management, compensation and benefits, and labor relations. Available 100% online or in a traditional in-class format with a September and January start.

Learning Outcomes

The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to

2. administer and co5. Contribute to the design and evaluation of the performance management program.

3. develop, implement, and evaluate employee orientation, training, and development programs.

4. facilitate and support effective employee and labour relations in both nonunion and union environments.

5. research and support the development and communication of the organization's total compensation plan.

6. collaborate with others, in the development, implementation, and evaluation of organizational health and safety policies and practices.

7. research and analyze information needs and apply current and emerging information technologies to support the human resources function.

8. develop, implement, and evaluate organizational development* strategies aimed at promoting organizational effectiveness.

9. present and evaluate communication messages and processes related to the human resources function of the organization.

10. manage own professional development and provide leadership to others in the achievement of ongoing competence in human resources professional practice.

11. facilitate and communicate the human resources component of the organization's business plan.

12. conduct research, produce reports, and recommend changes in human resources practices.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of Human Resources Management are prepared to enter the human resources field in all sectors (e.g., manufacturing, health care, education, government). Graduates are suited to a variety of junior-level and intermediate-level positions, including HR manager, HR administrator, HR generalist, HR consultant, HR analyst, labour relations consultant, HRIS administrator, pension and benefits administrator, recruiter and corporate trainer.

Entry requirement for international students

Post-secondary diploma, advanced diploma or degree with a minimum overall average of “C+” (2.5 cumulative GPA) OR a combination of relevant education and work experience in a related field as judged by the College OR five years work experience in the human resources field as judged by the College. In some cases a resume and cover letter may be requested.

Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to demonstrate proficiency in English by one of the following methods:

A Grade 12 College Stream or University Stream English credit from an Ontario Secondary School, or equivalent, depending on the program's Admission Requirements

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test with a minimum score of 570 for the paper-based test (PBT), or 88 for the Internet-based test (iBT), with test results within the last two years

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test with an overall score of 6.5 with no score less than 6.0 in any of the four bands, with test results within the last two years

Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) test with an overall score of 70 with no score less than 60 in any of the four bands, with test results within the last two years

Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE) with a minimum score of 59, with test results within the last two years

A Cambridge English Test (FCE/CAE/CPE) with an overall score on the Cambridge English Scale of 176 with no language skill less than 169, with test results within the last two years

An English Language Evaluation (ELE) at Fanshawe College with a minimum score of 75% in all sections of the test, with test results within the last two years

Fanshawe College ESL4/GAP5 students: Minimum grade of 80% in ESL4/GAP5 Level 9 or 75% in ESL4/GAP5 Level 10
