What will I learn?

The graduate program in the Faculty of Medicine are structured to create an academic environment conducive to research training excellence. The program is designed to provide formal instruction as well as to promote informal exchange in areas of health and health research.

These programs are based upon focal areas of health research within the Faculty and are dependent upon a critical mass of actively engaged faculty researchers in these areas. Each area of concentration has a program coordinator and includes a core of graduate courses appropriate to the area of health research and mechanisms for formal and informal exchange of research ideas (journal clubs, seminar series, visiting speakers program).

The graduate diploma program involves courses only and can be completed in 1-2 years.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Other English Language Requirements accepted: The Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Assessment with a minimum band scores of between 50 and 60 in each of the four skills tested (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking), with at least two band scores of 60 are the minimum requirements necessary for admission to the Marine Institute; A minimum score of at least 85 on the English Proficiency Test administered by the English Language Institute of the University of Michigan (MELAB); Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees (CanTEST) with a minimum band scores of 4.5 in the listening comprehension and reading comprehension sub-tests and a score of 4 in writing are required to satisfy Marine Institute English proficiency requirements; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) with a minimum score of 85.Graduate diploma, MASc, MEng – Bachelor's degree (minimum second class or ‘B’ standing) in an appropriate area of study

For international students

Applicants must have completed Bachelor's degree (minimum second class) in an appropriate area of study.

The minimum English proficiency test scores are as follows:

TOEFL: An aggregate score of 80 (92 for graduate programs with higher English proficiency requirements).

IELTS Academic: An aggregate score of 6.5 (7 for graduate programs with higher English proficiency requirements).

Duolingo English Test: An aggregate score of 115 (125 for graduate programs with higher English proficiency requirements).

CAEL - A score between 50 and 60 in each of four bands, with at least 2 band scores of 60.

MET: A score of 59%.

PTE Academic - Minimum scores of 58 in each of reading, writing, listening, and speaking
