Develop the strengths a fast-moving economy demands – and leading organizations are looking for – in this intensive, ten-month full-time program. At the intersection of risk management and finance, the Rotman MFRM provides an ideal balance of technical expertise and communications skills that will help launch your career.

Offered over ten months, the MFRM program is designed to prepare ambitious recent graduates and young professionals for careers in risk management and finance. All course are developed with practitioner input.

The integrated Risk Management Project is a major research project involving a risk management issue that is relevant and of interest to financial institutions. Students will work closely with practicing risk management professionals, while receiving oversight from faculty mentors. They will present their findings to practitioners, fellow students and faculty in early February.

Samples of project topics include:

Present the pros and cons of hedging FX exposure for a pension plan

Estimate trading book loss due to global market shocks for CCAR

Compare the reliability and relevance of different liquidity metrics

Propose a technology solution for non-cleared OTC derivatives

Assess the impact of IRRBB regulation on Canadian banks

Entry requirement for international students

A recognized four-year undergraduate degree or equivalent: A business, commerce, economics, mathematics, engineering, or actuarial science degree is preferred. However, other four-year undergraduate degrees will be considered if there is evidence of strong quantitative skills with a minimum B average in calculus, linear algebra, and statistics or econometrics.

Quantitative proficiency, usually demonstrated through the completion of university-level courses with a minimum B average, in calculus, linear algebra, and statistics and/or econometrics during the undergraduate degree.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS): The minimum requirement is an overall band of 6.5, with no band below 6.0.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): The minimum scores required for the different TOEFL tests are:

Internet-based Test:

Minimum Requirement: total score of 100 + 22 on Writing

Discretionary Range: total score 89-99 +19 - 21 on Writing

Cambridge Assessment English C1: Advanced or C2: Proficiency: A minimum overall score of 180, with at least 170 in each component.

Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL): The minimum score required to meet our English facility requirement is an overall score of 70 and no part below 60.

Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees (CanTEST): The minimum requirement is a total score of 4.5, and no part below 4.
