Established in 1998, IU International University of Applied Sciences is Germany’s largest university, and is home to more than 100,000 students from over 150 countries. IU is also the first German university to be part of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), a significant milestone that reinforces the university’s position as an international education provider. IU offers top-quality bachelor’s, master’s and MBA degree programmes, which are state-accredited and taught in English.
IU’s mission of creating inclusive and accessible education using an integrated digital platform, virtual classroom and innovative learning tools has seen it rise to the forefront of online education over the last 10 years. On-campus programmes at IU’s campuses in Berlin and Bad Honnef provide a flexible study experience that allows for the blending of in-person tutorials and online self-study, so students can balance studies and personal life in Germany.
Students at both of IU’s campuses get to be part of a truly vibrant international community. One of the latest and most exciting developments in teaching technology is the emerging application of artificial intelligence, used to enhance the organisation of academic study and improve overall learning outcomes for students.
An AI tutor is a generative tool which is designed to respond and react like a personal human tutor, with conversational abilities and the capacity to help students build study schedules and establish personalised learning targets.
Syntea is a new and dynamic AI tutor, which has been developed at the university and is available exclusively to IU International University of Applied Sciences students. It is a first of its kind teaching tool, which students can use to empower themselves and optimise their studies.
AI tutors typically have access to internet-based information and resources, and Syntea differs from this since the information it works with is 100 percent based on IU course books and learning materials. Syntea does not replace human tutors, but acts as an additional interactive component of a student’s learning experience. Human teachers are still required to ensure that the information communicated by Syntea is correct, consistent, and useful to each individual student’s personal goals.
The benefits of using Syntea include its 24/7 availability, where students can get instant feedback at any time of day or night, as well as the personalised service which it provides.
The Pre-assessment feature tests a student’s existing knowledge on a subject before the course begins, to help them understand in which areas to designate the most time and focus. Syntea can also perform a pre-exam assessment, to help students understand what needs improving before the final test.
IU students can readily access Syntea via the desktop version of the IU Learn app, and the university is in the process of developing a mobile version, which is expected to be available soon.
