The master’s program in Informatics broadens and deepens your existing knowledge. In addition, it offers you the opportunity to individually specialize in one or more discipline-specific areas.

The application of informatics has changed our lives and the way we work in a more intensive and sustained manner than any other science in the last 30 years. Mobile phones, digital cameras and PCs have become everyday commodities within an incredibly short time span. Informatics has played a key role in major developments in fields such as medicine, automotive engineering, and aerospace.

Informatics is a modern discipline and the engine of innovation for technical progress in all fields of economic and social life. Specialists in informatics shape the future! Their occupational fields are continually expanding and subject to constant change.

The duration of the master’s program in Informatics is four semesters. The program offers a high level of flexibility as regards the selection of your own specialties. In addition to the modules in the catalog of elective subjects, you can also choose to concentrate on a practice-led vocational education and training or a research-based profile that incorporates your first research work.

The Department of Informatics is one of the largest and most highly renowned in the field in Germany. As a graduate, you possess a top-class vocational education and training that, to a great extent, you will have tailored to your own interests.

You will have expanded your knowledge of the discipline and, upon successfully completing the degree, be able to conduct independent scientific work. Thus you fulfill the requirements for further developing the discipline and are well prepared for a challenging professional occupation or a doctoral degree.

In addition to a solid education in the core areas of informatics, the master’s program offers you the opportunity to specialize in at least one of eight areas:

  • software engineering
  • databases and information systems
  • artificial intelligence and robotics
  • computer graphics and vision

  • distributed systems, computer networks, and security
  • formal methods and their applications
  • algorithms and scientific computation

Entry requirement for international students

Minimum requirements to apply for a Master's program at TUM are a recognized undergraduate degree (e.g. a bachelor’s) and the successful completion of the aptitude assessment procedure.

Only a minimum overall band score of 6.5 in the IELTS Academic will be accepted.
