What You’ll Study

The course is developed around research-based learning in the design studio. You will develop an in-depth knowledge of the discipline, feel a sense of community with your peers, and exercise your creativity. Students will also be introduced to the contemporary themes and surrounding methodologies that shape architecture in Hong Kong and abroad, including territorial, social, technological, urban, and environmental issues.

Eye-opening exchange opportunities

As an architecture student, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in local, regional, and overseas learning and exchange opportunities, attend a leading international school of architecture for a semester, go on study trips to foundational sites of Asian architecture and urbanism, and participate in hands-on field workshops during the summer.

Professional Recognition

The degree is recognised by the Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA), the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA), the Architects Registration Board (ARB), and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). This means you can consider global opportunities in multiple markets after graduation.

Career Prospects

The programme sets you up for a successful career in architectural design or any other area of interest. After graduation, you may choose to enter the two-year MArch programme at HKU or any other tertiary institution of your choice, followed by a professional qualification before registering as a practising architect. Entry requirements

For students from United States

Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education/HKCEE/HKALE or equivalent. English Language Requirement: IELTS - An overall band of 6.5 in IELTS Academic Module; TOEFL - A score of 93 in the TOEFL internet-based test, or an overall score of 70 in the revised TOEFL Paper-delivered Test; Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English / Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English - Level C1 or an overall score of 180 in Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English; or Grade C or an overall score of 180 in Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English. Grade C in English First Language at IGCSE; or Grade B in English as a Second Language at IGCSE.

For international students

Admission Standards:

  • An International Baccalaureate Diploma with 31 points out of 45 or equivalent
  • GCE A-Level / International A-Level: Candidates should present at minimum of 2A 1B level subjects, excluding English and Chinese language or equivalent
  • Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education or equivalent
  • Hong Kong Associate Degree (AD) or Higher Diploma (HD) or equivalent
  • SAT / AP: Redesigned SAT 1350; A minimum of three subjects in American College Board Advanced Placement (AP) or SAT Subject Tests, each with a score of 3 or better; or 550 or better.

Fulfill one of the following English Language Requirements:

An overall band of 6.5 in IELTS Academic Module (within 2 years after the test date)

A score of 93 or better in the TOEFL internet-based test/ TOEFL iBT Home Edition, or 583 in the TOEFL paper-based test, or an overall score of 70 in the revised TOEFL Paper-delivered Test (October 2017 onwards) (within 2 years after the test date).

PTE A: A score of 64 in the Pearson Test of English Assessment (Academic).

International Baccalaureate Diploma;

(a) Grade C in English Language at GCSE/GCEO;
(b) Grade C in English First Language at IGCSE; or
(c) Grade B in English as a Second Language at IGCSE
