Life and Values Education
Education is first and foremost about enabling pupils to live a good life. It is becoming increasingly clear that economic prosperity does not necessarily result in a corresponding increase in people’s subjective well-being. In fact, rapid social changes have presented new challenges to the young in their search for a meaningful and fulfilling life, but at the same time eroded the ability of traditional socialization agents such as the family to help the young to meet these challenges. In response to this, educators are promoting the idea and practice of life education, with a strong emphasis on life’s moral and spiritual dimensions as integral elements of holistic development conducive to a flourishing life. This area of study explores the principles and practices of this rapidly developing field of life and values education.
