What will I learn?

This Master of Human Resources Management (MHRM) programme is designed for individuals who intend to pursue a professional career in human resources management. The programme will also benefit practicing human resources professionals who have little or no formal human resources management training or education, as well as line managers who seek an advanced education in the principles and practice of HR management.

Upon Completion Of The Programme, Graduates Will Possess:

HR management competencies

Graduates of HKBU MHRM programme will have the necessary HR management knowledge, skills and competencies to successfully carry out operational HR functions that translate HR policies and procedures into positive HR management outcomes.

Evaluation and advisory competencies

Graduates of HKBU MHRM will have the ability to evaluate and develop HR management programmes and processes, based on a sound knowledge of the principles of employee motivation and engagement, and an awareness of the importance of the organisational and cultural context and of ethical principles.

Personal and professional development

Graduates of the programme will be effective communicators, analytical and critical thinkers, who will appreciate the importance of life-long learning and continuing professional HR management development.

Globally recognised qualifications

HKBU HRM programme is mapped against the CIPD’s core knowledge and core behavioural standards of the Profession Map to the Chartered level standards. On successful completion of MHRM programme, active CIPD student members will gain CIPD Associate membership, which will be a great proof of graduates’ outstanding strategic thinking and HR management skills.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

A Bachelor degree from a recognized university, or equivalent. Although a bachelor degree in economics or related areas is not a pre-requisite for admission, the applicant is expected to possess the knowledge of microeconomics and macroeconomics, with some training in mathematics (especially in calculus and linear algebra) and statistics. Proof of English proficiency is required for applicants whose first degree were obtained from non-English-medium institutions. This can be fulfilled by obtaining a minimum TOEFL iBT score of 79; or a minimum of 6.5 in IELTS; OR other equivalent qualifications.

For international students

  • A recognised bachelor’s degree or an equivalent professional qualification (with no work experience requirement); or
  • A recognised diploma plus a minimum of four years of work experience.

If English was not the medium of instruction for the first degree, applicants must meet the English language requirement as stipulated below:

  • TOEFL iBT: overall band score not lower than 79 (Home Edition not accepted); or
  • IELTS (Academic): overall band score not lower than 6.5.
