What will I learn?

The Master of Nursing (MNurs) programme aims to provide opportunities for nursing graduates to advance their knowledge and skills so as to prepare them for the expanded and extended roles arising from health care reform and the rapid changes in health needs in Hong Kong.

The curriculum consists of three compulsory core courses, three track core courses, three elective courses and a capstone experience which includes a Translational Nursing Research course and a Dissertation or Clinical Research Project.

Upon completion of the programme, graduates are able to:

1. apply competently the advanced knowledge and skills in order to promote a culture of professional excellence in nursing practice;

2. contribute to the advancement of nursing knowledge and practice through research and evidence-based practice;

3. reflect on their own practice so that they can construct, articulate and evaluate their own philosophy, self-reflection and professional ethics in health care and nursing practice;

4. commit to life-long learning to enhance the ability to tackle ill-defined problems in pursuing practice and to ensure the best practices in healthcare setting of nursing;

5. lead, collaborate and coordinate multi-disciplinary team work and communicate with the nursing practitioners and general public effectively and professionally; and

6. provide leadership to the health care profession and nursing practice.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

To be eligible for admission to the courses leading to a taught postgraduate qualification, a candidate: shall hold a Bachelor's degree of this University or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose. English Language Requirements: TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): a score of 550 or above in the paper-based TOEFL; or a score of 213 or above in the computer-based TOEFL; or a score of 80 or above in the internet-based TOEFL; or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) - A minimum overall band of 6 with no subtest lower than 5.5; or GCE (General Certificate of Education) - Grade C or above; or IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) - Grade C or above; or Cambridge Test of Proficiency in English Language - Grade C or above.

For international students

To be eligible for admission to the curriculum leading to the degree of Master of Nursing, candidates shall:

a. comply with the General Regulations;
b. comply with the Regulations for Taught Postgraduate Curricula;
c. be a Registered Nurse holding a Bachelor's degree in nursing from this University, or from another university, or comparable institution accepted for this purpose; and
d. satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination if required.

In addition to satisfying the requirements for admission to the curriculum concerned, an applicant who is seeking admission on the basis of a qualification from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong of which the language of teaching and/or examination is not English is required to obtain one of the following examination result.

A. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
1. a score of 550 or above in the paper-based TOEFL; or
2. a score of 213 or above in the computer-based TOEFL; or
3. a score of 80 or above in the internet-based TOEFL; or

B. IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
