What will I learn?

Aim

The aim of the postgraduate programmes is to provide scientific training in research design, methodology, data analysis and result interpretation. Considerable emphasis is placed on the student’s acquisition of knowledge and skills in using advanced clinical and laboratory technologies in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Objectives

To study and understand the most updated development and important research topics in O&G;
To define a sound research hypothesis and plan, and apply an appropriate analytical and experimental approach to dissect the research questions;
To learn and apply valid statistics to analyse the clinical and/or laboratory data for publication; and
To encourage scientific presentations in international conferences and writing in international peer-review journals.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants must have a graduated from a recognized university and obtained a Bachelor's degree, normally with honours not lower than Second Class; or graduated from an honours programme of a recognized university with a Bachelor's degree, normally achieving an average grade of not lower than "B"; or completed a course of study in a tertiary educational institution and obtained professional or similar qualifications equivalent to an honours degree. English Language Requirements: TOEFL: 550 (Paper-based)/79 (Internet-based); IELTS (Academic): 6.5; GMAT (Verbal): Band 21.

For international students

Applicants must satisfy one of the following:

graduated from a recognized university and obtained a Bachelor's degree, normally with honors not lower than Second Class; or
graduated from an honors programme of a recognized university with a Bachelor's degree, normally achieving an average grade of not lower than "B" ; or
completed a course of study in a tertiary educational institution and obtained professional or similar qualifications equivalent to an honors degree.

In addition to the general requirements of the Graduate School, applicants should preferably have a recognized Bachelor's degree in a field related to life sciences or the degree of MBChB or equivalent.

To fulfill the University’s minimum English language requirements for admission to postgraduate programmes, applicants should have:

obtained a degree from a university in Hong Kong1 or taken a degree programme of which the medium of instruction was English; or

achieved scores in the following English Language tests as indicated:

TOEFL: 550 (Paper-based)/79 (Internet-based);
IELTS (Academic): 6.5;
GMAT (Verbal): Band 21; or

obtained a pass grade in English in one of the following examinations:

Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (AS Level);
Hong Kong Higher Level Examination;
CUHK Matriculation Examination;
General Certificate of Education Examination (GCE) Advanced Level (A-Level)/Advanced Subsidiary Level (AS-Level).

achieved Level 4 or above in the English Language subject of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination; or

obtained a recognized professional qualification, provided that the examination was conducted in English.
