What will I learn?

The concept of Smart Mobility is to achieve an efficient and sustainable city by utilising big data, digital platforms and a connected environment to optimise transport services for people and goods. The Department’s research activities include, but are not limited to, connected and autonomous vehicles, managed motorways, traffic signal optimisation, machine learning, data mining, utilisation of Bluetooth and Wifi data for traffic and pedestrian monitoring, optimisation of bus operations, asset life cycle costing, traffic safety analysis, environment-friendly transportation infrastructure, public transportation systems, queueing systems and multimodal traffic.

The Department has been actively involved in many research projects with leading research institutions and universities from Hong Kong, Mainland China, Japan, Korea, Australia, the USA and Europe.

Entry requirements

For international students

At least hold a Bachelor’s degree with Second Class Honors or above (or equivalent qualification) conferred by a recognized university.

PolyU may accept other equivalent qualifications. The decision is made on an individual basis.

English Language Requirements

The requirements for those who do not have a degree for which English was the language of instruction at a recognized university are:

An overall score of at least 6.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); OR

A Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 80 or above for the Internet-based test or 550 or above for the paper-based test.

All English language test scores are considered valid for two years after the date of the test.
