What will I learn?

The Master of Science in Business Analytics programme aims to prepare students for a career in business analytics. A business analytics professional needs to have the necessary skills and knowledge in a range of fields, including business, database, statistics, informatics, operations, as well as in advanced topics in business analytics such as business data mining, big data in business, etc. The program offers students with various business analytics courses, and it prepares an optimal mix of fundamental and cutting-edge knowledge in business analytics. Particularly, the programme will require a total of ten 6-credit courses that consist of five core courses (30 credits) and five elective courses (30 credits). The courses are divided into three streams: general analytics, information analytics, and operations analytics. Up to two elective courses may be taken from other taught postgraduate programmes offered by the Faculty.

Graduates of the programme will possess core analytics and quantitative skills needed in modern business world. They will fill the growing demand of business analytics specialists in Hong Kong, the region, and the world. To offer practical relevance as well as to prepare students for the job market, the programme forms a tie-up with Cyberport Hong Kong, an innovation & technology hub and creative digital community consisting of over 800 startups and organizations.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

To be eligible for admission to the courses leading to a taught postgraduate qualification, a candidate: shall hold a Bachelor's degree of this University or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose. English Language Requirements: TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): a score of 550 or above in the paper-based TOEFL; or a score of 213 or above in the computer-based TOEFL; or a score of 80 or above in the internet-based TOEFL; or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) - A minimum overall band of 6 with no subtest lower than 5.5; or GCE (General Certificate of Education) - Grade C or above; or IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) - Grade C or above; or Cambridge Test of Proficiency in English Language - Grade C or above.

For international students

  • A recognised Bachelor's degree or equivalent;
  • Statements from two referees; and
  • A TOEFL/IELTS* score if you are not from an English teaching university.​

*A minimum score of 550 (paper-based test) or 80 (internet-based test) in TOEFL, or a minimum overall band of 6 with no subtest lower than 5.5 in IELTS is required.

Application Deadline: Round 4: 12:00 noon (GMT +8), March 9, 2021; Round 5: 12:00 noon (GMT +8), April 7, 2021. Note there is only one intake (in August/September) per year.
