Programme Aims and Objectives
The Master of Science in Electronic Business and Knowledge Management (MScEBKM) programme has been constructed based on the realization that both e-business and knowledge management are critical components of the contemporary organisational environment. Business professionals need to understand the profound changes in the business environment, supply chains, organisational infrastructure and forms enabled and introduced by e-business. Further, they need to understand how organisations can leverage their employees’ skills and knowledge. The programme covers a wide range of objectives, spanning technical, managerial and organisational change topics.
It aims to educate and train a new generation of managers, professionals and entrepreneurs to understand the principles of e-business, the impact of e-business on business and management, and its potential for strategic advantage in organisations.
E-business is more encompassing than e-commerce. Business professionals need to understand more than transaction processing and other fulfilment via IT and communication technologies. They also have to understand the profound changes in the business environment, supply chains, organisation infrastructure and organisation forms brought about by e-business.
Our MScEBKM programme therefore covers a broad range of objectives, spanning technical, managerial, and organisational change topics. Once you have successfully completed the programme, you will be well equipped to take on the challenges and grasp the opportunities of the new economy. You will know how to evaluate e-business opportunities, how globalisation affects e-business, how to take advantage of new information technologies, how to make necessary changes to the organisation structure and organisation processes, and most important of all, how to make e-business sustainable and profitable.
Our programme is clearly targeted towards business professionals. For many, this includes an undergraduate degree in business (or related discipline) together with considerable work experience. Several of our students, however, already hold another graduate degree, such as an MBA or EMBA before entering the programme. As a specialist post-graduate programme, the MScEBKM builds on the knowledge of these programmes, and is highly synergetic with them.
