Digestive diseases are rapidly increasing by number and complexity. Cancers related to digestive disorder account for 38% of deaths in WHO Western Pacific region. In response to the soaring demand for all-round GI professionals, the number of registered gastroenterologists in Hong Kong rose from 61 in 2001 to 183 in 2015. A specialized degree in gastroenterology, therefore, will give you a competitive edge in a commencing and advancing your career in the ever expanding GI field.

You don’t have to be a gastroenterologist or an aspiring one to enroll in our programme. Our alumni come from diverse professional backgrounds.

Course Offerings

Our courses are built around 5 strong themes: Principles in Gastroenterology, Statistics & Research Methodology, GI & Liver Diseases, Communication & Health Administration, Management of GI Diseases. Upon completion of our programme, students will develop strong skills in analytical thinking, proficiency in communications and confidence in tackling digestive diseases that come from thorough knowledge of gastroenterology.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants must have a graduated from a recognized university and obtained a Bachelor's degree, normally with honours not lower than Second Class; or graduated from an honours programme of a recognized university with a Bachelor's degree, normally achieving an average grade of not lower than "B"; or completed a course of study in a tertiary educational institution and obtained professional or similar qualifications equivalent to an honours degree. English Language Requirements: TOEFL: 550 (Paper-based)/79 (Internet-based); IELTS (Academic): 6.5; GMAT (Verbal): Band 21.

For international students

Applicants must satisfy one of the following:

  1. graduated from a recognized university and obtained a Bachelor's degree, normally with honors not lower than Second Class; or
  2. graduated from an honors programme of a recognized university with a Bachelor's degree, normally achieving an average grade of not lower than "B" ; or
  3. completed a course of study in a tertiary educational institution and obtained professional or similar qualifications equivalent to an honors degree.

To fulfill the University’s minimum English language requirements for admission to postgraduate programmes, applicants should have:

obtained a degree from a university in Hong Kong or taken a degree programme of which the medium of instruction was English; or

achieved scores in the following English Language tests2 as indicated:

  • TOEFL: 550 (Paper-based)/79 (Internet-based);
  • IELTS (Academic): 6.5;
  • GMAT (Verbal): Band 21; or

obtained a pass grade in other English language requirements equivalent to HKDSE or

obtained a recognized professional qualification, provided that the examination was conducted in English.
