Master of Science in Information Systems Management


What will I learn?

The Master of Science in Information Systems Management (MScISM) programme has been designed for Business/IT graduates who are interested in acquiring information management skills. This programme provides an optional specialization of study in one of the two areas of Business Intelligence or Technology and Entrepreneurship.

This programme aims to present at postgraduate level the theories, methods, support techniques and skills required for effective analysis and management of information in the business, commercial, industrial, and public sectors.


Upon successful completion of this Programme, students should be able to:

  • Recognize and elicit of the scope and responsibilities of IS management and of its relationship to the wider IS-user and general management community
  • Explore and assess the socio-technical issues of information systems management
  • Design plans, control mechanisms, and architecture for IS projects for enhanced productivity and quality
  • Demonstrate communication and teamwork skills, and the ability to work within a code of professional ethics and conduct

Programme Highlights

  • Helping Bachelor degree holders of any discipline to enter into the Business Information Management and Analytics profession
  • Up to 5 work experience scholarships (max. HK$60,000 each) to financially support qualified students
  • Up to 3 academic merit scholarships (max. HK$10,000 each) to reward students with outstanding academic performance

Subject to the enrolment quota, students can select any master level elective courses offered by any departments of the College of Business. However, students are advised to take either the "Business Intelligence" or the "Technology and Entrepreneurship" elective stream of the MSc ISM programme. Students may also take master level elective courses offered by Department of Computer Science subject to the approval by programme leader and the respective course examiner of the CS department.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree of one of the universities in Hong Kong or of an overseas institution recognized for this purpose by the University; or hold such other qualifications as deemed acceptable by the University as equivalent. English Language Requirements: a TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based test) or 79 (internet-based test); or an overall band score of 6.5 in International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or band 6 in the Chinese mainland's College English Test; or other equivalent qualifications

For international students

Applicants must:

  • hold a recognized Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from one of the tertiary education institutions in Hong Kong funded by the University Grant Committee (UGC), or equivalent. Applicants who hold a Bachelor's degree and have relevant work experience will be given preference.

Applicants whose entrance qualification is obtained from an institution where the medium of instruction is not English should also fulfill the following minimum English proficiency requirement:

  • TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based test) or 79 (internet-based test); or
  • Overall band score of 6.5 in International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or
  • Score 450 in the new College English Test (CET6) of Chinese mainland or a pass in the old CET-6 test; or
  • Other equivalent qualifications
