About this course

What will I learn?

The Programme aims at bringing in an integration of the knowledge and skills of Chinese medicine with the conventional medicine to enhance the prevailing methods in health preservation/rehabilitation. Also, the programme intends to promote the benefits of Chinese medicine to the community; and to nurture a generation of high caliber personnel in health management with a new emphasis on Chinese medicine, who will contribute to public health management and health education promotion in Hong Kong and overseas.

  • Dissertation 3 units

The academic results of the supplementary course obtained by the students will be recorded in the student transcript (Satisfactory/Fail) without GPA grading.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants should normally hold a Bachelor's degree for admission to a Taught Postgraduate degree programme; English Language Requirements: TOEFL - 550 (Paper-based), 79 (Internet-based); or IELTS (Academic): Overall Band at 6.5; or CET-6 (College English Test band 6): 450.

For international students

Applicants should be

  • holders of good bachelor’s degree and the Hong Kong registered healthcare personnel’s; or
  • holders of a good bachelor’s degree in other disciplines from a recognised university; or
  • holders of a good bachelor’s degree of Chinese medicine or pharmacy in Chinese medicine from a recognised university; or
  • registered Chinese medicine practitioners in Hong Kong, who have passed the Hong Kong Chinese Medicine Practitioners Licensing Examination.

English Language:

Applicants must have

  • obtained a bachelor’s degree with Chinese language as the primary medium of instruction in the major courses; or
  • obtained Grade E or above in Chinese Language and Culture in the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE); or
  • obtained Level 3 in Chinese Language in Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE); or
  • passed the Chinese language test arranged by the School of Chinese Medicine, HKBU.

An applicant seeking admission on the basis of a qualification from a university or comparable institution of which the language of teaching and/or examination is not English is required to obtain a minimum score in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) at 550 (PBT)/79(IBT)* or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) at 6.5.
