What will I learn?

Recent technology developments have catalysed unprecedented growth rates, but many organisations struggle to keep up with the vast amounts of data generated. The MSc in Business Analytics is an advanced one-year programme designed to train professionals to analyse data with quantitative tools and convert it into useful information. You will be equipped to guide strategic decision making for organisations all over the world.

You will be trained in statistical tools and quantitative methods that enable you to explore and investigate mass data. Under the guidance of professionals, you will learn to make extensive use of data, so you can identify key insights about performance, predict market changes and ultimately improve strategic decisions.

Overview

Making extensive use of statistical tools, this programme teaches you how to convert large amounts of data into meaningful information by asking the right questions, choosing the right technology and implementing the right algorithms.

To complete the programme, you will need to attain a total of 30 credits of coursework, comprising of 6 core courses and 4 elective courses worth 3 credits each.

Course exemption

You may be exempt from taking a course if you have completed an equivalent course in your postgraduate studies and achieved a grade B or above. You may be exempt from a maximum of 6 credits, subject to approval. You would need to substitute these exempt credits with other elective courses.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants must have a graduated from a recognized university and obtained a Bachelor's degree, normally with honours not lower than Second Class; or graduated from an honours programme of a recognized university with a Bachelor's degree, normally achieving an average grade of not lower than "B"; or completed a course of study in a tertiary educational institution and obtained professional or similar qualifications equivalent to an honours degree. English Language Requirements: TOEFL: 550 (Paper-based)/79 (Internet-based); IELTS (Academic): 6.5; GMAT (Verbal): Band 21.

For international students

Applicants must satisfy one of the following:

  1. graduated from a recognized university and obtained a Bachelor's degree, normally with honors not lower than Second Class; or
  2. graduated from an honors programme of a recognized university with a Bachelor's degree, normally achieving an average grade of not lower than "B" ; or
  3. completed a course of study in a tertiary educational institution and obtained professional or similar qualifications equivalent to an honors degree.

To fulfill the University’s minimum English language requirements for admission to postgraduate programmes, applicants should have:

obtained a degree from a university in Hong Kong or taken a degree programme of which the medium of instruction was English; or

achieved scores in the following English Language tests2 as indicated:

  • TOEFL: 550 (Paper-based)/79 (Internet-based);
  • IELTS (Academic): 6.5;
  • GMAT (Verbal): Band 21; or

obtained a pass grade in other English language requirements equivalent to HKDSE or

obtained a recognized professional qualification, provided that the examination was conducted in English.
