Study Scheme

Courses of PGDE programme are grouped into the following three domains:

(1) Curriculum and Instruction Domain;

(2) Educational Administration and Policy Domain;

(3) Educational Psychology Domain

Teaching Practice

Teaching Practice (TP) is an integral part of the Programme. Through TP, students can improve their teaching quality and professional development. During the TP period, the Faculty’s TP supervisors will visit students in their TP schools and support their professional development through assessment, taking into consideration their teaching performance as well as their professional behaviour and attitude.

Arrangement of Teaching Practice

Full-time Programme:

Students are required to complete a 10-week TP within the study period. Students (except English majors) will have two blocks of TP and each block lasts for five weeks (including preparation week). English majors will have one block of TP in the second term. Each student will be assigned to a TP school by the Faculty. Experienced teachers in TP schools will be invited to act as Teaching Advisers to provide students with guidance and supervision within the entire TP period.

Immersion Programme (Applicable to Full-time English Majors Only)

Due to Hong Kong SAR Government’s drive to improve and enhance the quality of English language teachers in Hong Kong, students doing a one-year full-time PGDE programme majoring in English with all tertiary institutes in Hong Kong are required to complete a six-to-eight-week overseas immersion programme during their study period. Immersion programme aims to enhance students' competence in using English as a means of communication; allow students to gain first-hand experience and knowledge of cultures of English speaking countries; and to expand students' exposure to educational practices overseas. Students will be barred from graduation if they do not fulfill the requirement.
