What will I learn?

Social Care Work is a relationship-based approach to the purposeful planning and provision of care, protection, psychosocial support and advocacy in partnership with vulnerable individuals and groups who experience marginalisation, disadvantage or special needs. Principles of social justice and human rights are central to the practice of Social Care Workers.'' Social Care Workers Registration Board, CORUAs an applied profession, this course requires students to undertake two semesters of professional placement. Typically, a Social Care Worker is employed working with those who have physical or learning difficulties, disabilities, young people at risk, children who have been neglected or abused, family support services, addiction services, homeless services, elderly people, and in settings as diverse as residential care, day care, and community-based services.This course emphasises the professional and personal development required to work in the challenging field. Graduates find employment opportunities with the HSE, TUSLA, statutory and voluntary organisations and community-based agencies.

Entry requirements

For international students

Leaving Certificate: A minimum of 2 H5 & 4 O6/H7 grades in six Leaving Certificate subjects, including Mathematics and English or Irish. Foundation Level Mathematics at grade F2 or higher is acceptable as meeting the Mathematics requirement for this programme.

IELTS score for entry to undergraduate courses a minimum score of 5.5
