What will I learn?

The BBS in Business and Management is the flagship undergraduate degree programme in the School of Business, offering comprehensive coverage of all major elements of business and our widest range of optional modules.
Business and Management students will learn how they can make a positive difference in the lives of customers, employees, colleagues, organisations and broader society through applying management best practices.

Our goal is that, on completion of the programme, students will be critical thinkers, experienced in working in groups, knowledgeable in key Business Management functions, and will have acquired the skills needed for success in a dynamic and evolving labour market.
A recent survey of all Irish university graduates found that, amongst the 10 major fields of university study, Business had one of the highest rates of graduate employment (HEA 2017).

Course Structure

1st year

The first year is about building the foundations of knowledge in business and management. The fundamentals of business and management are covered in modules, including Management, Marketing, Innovation, Professional Skills and Business Ethics. No prior studies in business/ management are required.

2nd year

The second year is about expanding your knowledge of the core disciplines and functions in business and management. Students take a combination of core and optional modules. Optional 10 credit Elective. Some students may choose to complete a work placement or study abroad year between 2nd and 3rd year and graduate after the 4th year. *(The University will support you in the search for a placement job; however, the process is competitive).

Final year

The final year is about deepening your understanding of business in general, examining how functions and theories tie together at the strategic level. Students also have the opportunity to specialise through a choice of advanced optional modules.

Career Options

A recent survey of all Irish university graduates found that, amongst the 10 major fields of university study, Business had one of the highest rates of graduate employment (HEA 2017).

Typically, Management graduates enter employment as general management graduate trainees in service or manufacturing organisations; work as functional specialists in areas such as marketing, sales, operations, management information systems, or human resource management; or continue their education with a specialist postgraduate degree. Careers in consulting, public service and not-for-profit organisations are also common.
Business and Management graduates may also continue their education through the various specialist postgraduate degree programs offered through the School of Business.

Entry requirements

For international students

Students must have completed a Leaving Certificate equivalent to the Ireland Leaving Certificate.

IELTS - 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in each band; TOEFL internet-based test - iBT: 90 with no less than 21 in writing and at least 19 in all other sections; Pearson Test of English - 63 with no less than 59 for each item in the Communicative Skills section; Duolingo English Test (DET) - 120 with no less than 110 in literacy, conversation, and comprehension subscores and no less than 95 in production. (This lower production subscore applies to non-EU applicants only), Cambridge Proficiency Cert. - 176+ on Cambridge English scale with no less than 169 in each skill and use of English. Proficiency Certificate, Grade C or better (CEFR Level C1 or C2); Cambridge Advanced Cert. - 176+ on Cambridge English scale with no less than 169 in each skill and use of English Advanced Certificate, Grade C or better (CEFR Level C1 or C2); Cambridge First Cert. - 176+ on Cambridge English scale with no less than 169 in each skill and use of English First Certificate, Grade A (CEFR Level C1); ETAPP - C1 or better (CEFR Level C1 or C2); Oxford Test of English - 140 with no less than 125 in each skill; Trinity College London ISE - ISE III with at least merit in each skill category. International Baccalaureate – English A1, A2, or B5 at Higher Level (4at either Level if presenting IB through English) NOTE: Applicants whose school-leaving examinations are more than two years old should present additional proof of English.
