Sustainable land use concerns everyone because of the limited land resources for food production and the increased trend towards urbanization. Accelerated land degradation and limiting water resources further aggravates the situation, as land belongs to the past, present and future generations, it is not only a useful and tradable commodity but also a valuable natural resources that must be conserved and protected for the common good of all.

Programme Structure

Land Laws and Land Administration in Malaysia (SST5002, 3 credits)

This course encompasses the various land laws and acts, their relationships with land administration and management in the economic development framework of Malaysia.

Land Evaluation (SST5201, 3 credits)

This course covers the basic concepts and principles of land evaluation, data sources and procedures of land evaluation for different land use types.

Soil and Water Conservation (SST5301, 3 credits)

This course encompasses aspects of management, laws and economy of land conservation, particularly the watershed areas, and their relation to preservation of biodiversity, natural hazard and climatic changes.

Land Contamination and Pollution (SST5801, 3 credits)

The course encompasses topics of the effects of industrialization, urbanization and agricultural activities on environmental degradation, risks assessment and standards of air and water quality.

Land Development and Environment (EMG5505, 3 credits)

This course covers concepts of land and township development, types of project development, process of agricultural and forest lands conversion to township development, landfill and industry, soil quality, environment management, degradation of environmental quality, remediation of polluted soil and environmental impact assessment.

Entry requirement for international students

Students must have a bachelor degree (minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average: 2.25) related to land resource management or other relevant disciplines and 3 years of working experience in land management or administration.

For applicants with one of the following

550 for the TOEFL Paper-based Test (Academic Version); or

Band 6.0 for IELTS (Academic Training); or

79-80 for TOEFL Internet-based Test (Academic Version); or

Level 109 for CIEP at ELS Language Centre; or

Band 4.0 for IELTS (Academic Training) or 400 for the TOEFL Paper-based Test (Academic Version) only for Malay Language Studies, Arabic, Chinese Literature programme or any other programmes that allow a thesis to be written in the language of instruction; or

Any English Language Test which is equivalent to B2 in Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
