About Faculty

The Faculty of Food Science and Technology had its humble beginnings in 1976 with the establishment of the Department of Food Science and Technology under the Faculty of Agriculture. The establishment of the department is in line with the need of the country to fulfil the shortage of skilled employees in the field of science-based food. At that time, only one undergraduate program was offered: Bachelor of Food Science and Technology.

The field encompasses multidisplinary studies in aquatic animal medicine, which includes fish, crustacean, amphibian of economic importance and marine mammals. The multifaceted study approach covers various aquatic systems and aquaculture management, ecology and habitat of aquatic animal and relationship between animals, pathogens and environment in disease outbreaks. Other studies that can be conducted include development of new and innovative sustainable health management practices, diagnostic techniques, disease treatment and prevention of disease outbreak in aquaculture.
