About Faculty

The Faculty of Food Science and Technology had its humble beginnings in 1976 with the establishment of the Department of Food Science and Technology under the Faculty of Agriculture. The establishment of the department is in line with the need of the country to fulfil the shortage of skilled employees in the field of science-based food. At that time, only one undergraduate program was offered: Bachelor of Food Science and Technology.

This field focuses on diseases and their etiological agents in poultry, exotic and wild birds. It covers the molecular mechanism, epidemiology, pathogenesis, pathology, treatment responses and development of diagnostic kits and vaccines for the chosen disease. This field also involves hands-on training to develop specialized skills and expertise in avian medicine, particularly diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases especially in the field of exotic and wild birds.
