The Doctor of Philosophy program also requires students to complete several academic courses and conduct an independent research project.

This field covers the management and conservation of forest ecosystems to ensure that they are managed in a sustainable manner based on the three main components: environmental, social and economic. Impact on the environment as a result of forestry activities such as climate change, forest fires, environmental pollution, forest and timber certification, and others are also emphasized. Related Sub-fields are: Forest Management, Forest Silviculture, Urban Forest, Forest Biotechnology, Forest Botany, Forest Engineering, Tree Physiology, Tree Improvement, Seed Technology, Policy and Forest Economics, Forest Ecology, Forest Measurements, Forest Soil, Watershed Management (Hydrology), Forest Protection (Pathology and Entomology), Social Forestry, International Forestry, Conservation and Biodiversity, Remote Sensing and GIS, Non-Timber Resource Management.

Entry requirement for international students

Master’s degree recognized by UPM in forestry or related fields; or

Bachelor’s degree with CGPA of 3.75 and above or equivalent to a first class honors may be considered for fast track PhD.

For applicants with one of the following

550 for the TOEFL Paper-based Test (Academic Version); or

Band 6.0 for IELTS (Academic Training); or

79-80 for TOEFL Internet-based Test (Academic Version); or

Level 109 for CIEP at ELS Language Centre; or

Any English Language Test which is equivalent to B2 in Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
