What will I learn?

Brain port Eindhoven Region is a splendid environment for studying Industrial Engineering & Management. This is the place where the cleverest of companies design and improve state of the art industrial and consumer products for customers all over the world. Fontys Industrial Engineering & Management provides a varied training programme. Together with your teachers, fellow students and managers of external companies, you discover what you need to know and need to be able to do to gain a deep understanding of the people, the organisation, the technical know-how and the economic principles on which companies depend. You start building your cv with relevant experiences from the very first moment of your student career with us. And unlike quite a few other industrial engineering programmes, we offer you not only theoretical knowhow but also practical skills to be successful as an entrepreneur.

This programme leads to the international Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree. Our students are trained to become all-round experts in business engineering. With the knowledge and skills obtained at Fontys University students are likely to find work as managers or consultants in large and medium sized production companies, but our graduates may also be found in the service industry, or working for local authorities. Alternatively, there is the possibility to do a master or MBA and some students might take the step to start an own company.

1st year of study

In the first year of study you are introduced to the broad subject of Industrial Engineering & Management. During the first quarter, you immediately start learning about production techniques and materials used in production. You will work in groups, analysing a household device with all its components. The remaining quarters of the first year, you will also be involved in group tasks, analysing and finding improvements for companies going through a range of change processes, including changes to production facility and product design. To facilitate your achievements in these projects, there will also be introductory lectures for key subjects such as business economics, manufacturing technique and organisation and management.

In projects you learn to answer questions like: "how do we produce more efficiently?", "How do we organize our new factory? ',' Can we earn more if our company is going to outsource?

2nd year of study

Even as early as your second year, you work on problems real companies are faced with. Together with your fellow students, your tutor and your teachers, you are engaged in improving business processes. You apply your theoretical knowledge in actual companies. What do customers want? What about the costs? What do the staff members want? What machines will be used? Can you see things differently, gain a better understanding? You gain insight into the workings of a company, tackle problems and reveal opportunities.

3rd year of study

In this year you follow a minor of your choice and complete an internship in an internationally oriented company. During this internship, you are expected to solve an actual problem the company is faced with, and you initiate the implementation of your own solution, possibly connected to shortening of lead-time, reducing production costs or addressing new market segments.

4th year of study

In the first semester you are again involved in a group assignment the aim of which is to assist an internationally oriented company to realize one of its ambitions, for instance to improve the logistic chain or international marketing. In the second semester you will work on your graduation project, which is your opportunity to demonstrate that you are ready to acquire the bachelor degree. For graduation, you will analyse and advise on a complicated business issue.
