MA in History - Politics, Culture and National Identities, 1789 to the Present (Research)

Netherlands

What will I learn?

In the research master Politics, Culture and National Identities, 1789 to the Present at Leiden University you will be at the forefront of a new approach to understand how politics and identities in Europe are conceived.

Why study Politics, Culture and National Identities (research) at Leiden University?

You will be part of a research master's programme that takes a broad, comparative approach to the study of the political and national identities of a number of European countries spanning the period 1800 to 2010. The programme also takes an international perspective by looking at the relations between different European countries instead of the more usual nationalistic historiography.

About the programme

During the two-year Politics, Culture and National Identities, 1789 to the Present programme you will learn from inspired academics and learn how to conduct quality research.

The programme includes a number of courses enabling you to acquire a better understanding of theories on historical processes, historical debates and methodology of historical research. In the first semester, you will follow a course in historical methodology, in the second semester a course in research skills. Both courses are taught by first-rate instructors and address problems and issues highly relevant throughout your study.
