What will I learn?

In this MA students explore how media are produced and (re-)used in a digital era. You study how new media technologies enable innovative formats and distinctive practices of media use, re-use and consumption. Key to this MA programme is the insight that all innovation starts from creativity. Yet new start-ups in cultural and media production also need to balance commercial interest and creative drive. Students are invited to put academic knowledge into creative practice - building upon a profound understanding of how media industries have developed over time, how media genres evolve and how changing media (re-)use plays into economic, policy, organisational, labour and legal issues, including piracy, web streaming, and remixing of media content.

Job prospects

This track leads to positions in media management, media production, (online) communication, online publishing, advertising, audiovisual archives, web curating, content management, tool development, content creation, cultural organisations, entrepreneurship and start-ups.

International students who have chosen to start a program at the Faculty of Arts in Groningen in september may even be more unsure of what their future holds in the short term. Travel might be complicated, and visa-regulations may have altered. Reception of your documentation for admissions may be delayed due to corona-measures or other regulations may impede you from coming to Groningen at the start of your programme.
