Master's specialisation Marketing: something for you?

The key to this specialisation is relationship management.
You will come to understand that more than a sound product is needed.
You will learn how marketing relates to other business disciplines such as sales and HRM.
You will gain needed knowledge in social and psychological processes.

What will you learn?

In the Master's specialisation in Marketing, you will learn all about creating long-term sustainable relations in relation to corporate social responsibility. Marketing is all about creating value for customers and other stakeholders. And these other stakeholders are not just shareholders or other players that have a financial interest. Employees, local residents near factories, environmental groups and public administrators are also stakeholders gaining a stronger say. Although the bottom line is still about profit, both people and planet have become major issues when it comes to responsible perspective on marketing.

Career prospects

Master's specialisation in Marketing

After graduating, most Marketing students find positions such as brand manager, product manager, management consultant, market researcher, and account manager. Our graduates are greatly valued by their employers for their analytical skills and sound understanding of business practices. They work for firms such as Google, Rabobank, D.E. Master Blenders, Mercedes Benz, , and FrieslandCampina. In addition, many of our students start their own business. And a few go on to do a traineeship or pursue a PhD in Business Administration.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

A completed Bachelor's degree in Philosophy or in a related discipline (in the latter case, students must have acquired at least 60 EC in Philosophical disciplines). The applicant must have a degree with merit or distinction or equivalent. Meaning: a student’s weighted grade-point average in Philosophy in the 2nd and 3rd year of their Bachelor's programme must be the equivalent of 7.5 or more (on the Dutch scale of 10). A TOEFL iBT or 100 overall, with subscores of 22; An IELTS score of 7.0, with subscores of 6.5; A Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 proficiency, with marks of C or higher.

For international students

A Bachelor’s degree in a similar (or related) field from another research university with a fair number of courses in your preferred specialisation. Your degree must be equivalent to a Dutch Research University diploma. Ideally, your Bachelor's degree should cover the following courses:

  • Organisation Theory
  • Strategy
  • Marketing
  • Human Resource Management
  • Finance
  • Statistics
  • Quantitative and Qualitative Methods
  • Bachelor’s thesis of 12 EC

All other students need one of the following certificates (All certificates may not be older than two years):

TOEFL iBT: ≥ 90 & subscores ≥ 22
IELTS Academic: ≥ 6,5 overall. Subscores ≥ 6,0, writing subscore ≥ 6,5
Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 proficiency: C or higher
