What will you learn?

In the Master’s specialisation in Global Environment and Sustainability you’ll gain the required knowledge of the economic, political, ethical and societal dimensions shaping environmental problems and possible solutions in a globalising world. This specialisation focuses on the relationships between global players like international institutions, multinational companies, environmental organisations and the regimes that govern over the world’s natural resources. You’ll be introduced to the latest scientific insights, which will be illustrated with numerous examples of how countries all over the world tackle these problems and the various interests at play.

Master’s programme in Environment and Society Studies

After completion, you’ll be equipped with the following skills and knowledge for a young environmental practitioner, policy-maker or academic researcher. Among others, you’ll have the ability to:

Apply relevant social science concepts and theories that are important when analysing and clarifying social change on the path towards a sustainable future.
Analyse and design policy change for sustainability, including the methods of policy analysis, transition management and evaluation of policy.
Facilitate collaboration between the public and private parties involved.
Write policy documents, strategic plans or a position paper on environment and society.
Identify and study lobbying and advocacy efforts concerning issues of sustainability.
Work together in a professional and goal-oriented way in a wide range of social settings (interdisciplinary teams of experts, consultations and negotiations), taking into consideration other individuals’ stances values and beliefs.

In order to get admission to this Master's you will need a completed Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Spatial Planning, Human Geography, or another related discipline.

All other students need one of the following certificates (All certificates may not be older than two years):

TOEFL iBT: ≥ 90 & subscores ≥ 22
IELTS Academic: ≥ 6,5 overall. Subscores ≥ 6,0, writing subscore ≥ 6,5
Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 proficiency: C or higher
