What will I learn?

Are you curious to learn how to bridge the gap in methodology, thinking, and language and between “number-crunching” finance professionals and customer-centric marketers? Are you interested in understanding biases and heuristics in consumer and investor financial decision-making? Are you interested in understanding how both financial as well as marketing actions drive firm performance and how they relate to each other? Then the interdisciplinary specialisation in Marketing-Finance could be right for you. As part of the master’s programme in International Business, the specialisation combines core Finance, Marketing as well as specialised Marketing-Finance courses.

The specialisation in Marketing-Finance not only teaches you an understanding of finance, marketing, consumer psychology and their interrelations but also how to integrate them in an environment that aims at maximizing financial performance as well as customer value.

Marketing-Finance is the first programme of its kind to combine the marketing and finance disciplines into a single programme centred on international business. You will learn ‘both sides’ of the business milieu, from financial decision-making and product development to relationship marketing and shareholder value. You will also benefit from the outstanding academic and teaching resources available at two departments of the School of Business and Economics.

You should be looking for an interdisciplinary programme. Marketing-Finance has been designed for people seeking a comprehensive international business background, bringing together both the quantitative aspects of the finance discipline and the emotional and psychological aspects of the marketing discipline. You are a critical thinker, ready for a challenging learning experience. You should be interested in how organisations create value for their stakeholders, from launching a successful financial product to why and how people make certain financial decisions. Some prior knowledge of marketing and/or finance - such as a major or minor in your bachelor's studies is strongly recommended.

Your future

As a Marketing-Finance graduate, you will be in possession of a unique but valuable qualification. Most companies have marketing and finance departments that are distinct from one another. Your deep understanding of both fields will open up career opportunities for you in marketing, financial services, and risk management, with plenty of opportunities for advancement. Applicants must have a BSc or an equivalent diploma in a related field to Data Science and Knowledge Engineering.
