Course info

The two-year Research Master’s programme Linguistics enables you to specialise in a wide range of linguistic sub-disciplines, and puts a sharp focus on methodological issues.

Linguistics is a Research Master's programme, which means that it prepares participants for entry into a related PhD programme, or other research position. The programme allows students to specialise in any of a wide range of linguistic sub-disciplines and puts a sharp focus on methodological issues. The core courses concentrate on language universals and learnability, which are the focus areas of the Amsterdam Center for Language and Communication (ACLC). In these core courses, the student is acquainted with performing linguistic research from different theoretical and thematic perspectives.

The programme can be adapted to the needs of the individual student. The electives, tutorials (research projects under close guidance of a supervisor) and the final thesis project allow the student to choose any specialisation present within the ACLC or the Institute for Logic, Language and Communication (ILLC).
