Program and courses

Get two full master’s degrees by combining two related subject areas with different approaches. Graduate both as Master of Research in Sociology and Demography at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) and Master of Science in Sociology at Tilburg University. To be accepted directly onto our Double Degree program in Sociology and Population Studies, you need to have the following academic background:

In order to qualify for the Master's in Sociology, you must have (a)n:

University degree (undergraduate and/or graduate) in a –preferably- relevant discipline, e.g. the field of social sciences, law, humanities or health sciences, and have a graduation date no later than September 1, 2020.

You cannot be accepted onto this Master's program without having either a Bachelor's or Master's degree. Work experience or an interest in this field cannot be taken into account for the admission process without a sufficient academic background. However, work experience and personal interest will be taken into account when assessing your application for a Tilburg University Scholarship for Academic Excellence, if you wish to apply.

Adequate knowledge of research methods and statistics, as demonstrated by having registered and passed at least one statistical course during your BA studies.
Adequate knowledge of social science statistics and research methods.

English language proficiency:

You need to demonstrate proficiency in English by submitting the results of either:

  • TOEFL with a minimum score of 577 (paper-based) / 90 (internet-based).
  • Academic IELTS score with a minimum of 6.5 score overall and a minimum score of 6.0 on individual parts of the test.
  • Cambridge English test results: C1 advanced (formerly CAE) or C2 proficiency (formerly CPE). For both C1 and C2, we accept a score of A, B or C.
