After successfully completing the Diploma in Environmental Management (Level 6) at NorthTec Te P?kenga, you can enrol straight into this Unitec Te P?kenga degree in your third year. You will gain comprehensive knowledge of regional, national and global challenges to biodiversity management. Enjoy small classes, plenty of field trips and a friendly atmosphere.

Youll develop practical skills to monitor ecosystems and analyse, comprehend and evaluate results, understand how to engage appropriate resources for environmental investigation, and learn to critique social, cultural and policy frameworks and their effect on management decisions.

The Environmental Management pathway at NorthTec offers three qualifications in three years:

  • After one year of study: New Zealand Diploma in Environmental Management (Level 5)
  • After two years of study: New Zealand Diploma in Environmental Management (Level 6)
  • After three years of study: Bachelor of Applied Science (Biodiversity Management) (From Unitec)

Entry requirements

For international students

Students who have successfully completed the New Zealand Diploma in Environmental Management (Level 6) or the Diploma in Conservation and Environmental Management at NorthTec with at least a B+ average will be allowed direct entry into this programme. Students will be enrolled on their Programme with Unitec and will be required to complete 120 credits, i.e. the equivalent of one years full time study.

Applicants for whom English is not their first language require a minimum IELTS score of 6 with no band lower than 5.5, or NZCEL Level 4 (Academic) are eligible for enrolment at all levels of the NZQF.
