What will I learn?

The Bachelor of Arts is a highly flexible degree that allows a wide range of choices from major and minor subjects or specialisation pathways, as well as courses from other degrees.

Human Services focuses on professional issues such as child protection, health, violence, and rehabilitation in society.

Overview: Human Services is all about working with people to create a healthy life for the community and make positive impacts in the world. Human Services is one of the fastest growing employment fields in the world as it is incorporated in so many professions including education, law enforcement, and health.

What will my study involve:

Five different pathways within Human Services, including healthy lifestyles, crime and deviance, local and global communities, workplaces, and youth. Opportunities to practice your research skills and investigate topics from an angle that interests you. This subject can be studied alongside many different degrees to strengthen your human service and social awareness in your studies.

Career Opportunities:The skills gained from Human Services will suit any industry that involves compassion for and working with people, such as education, health, social support, policy, and law enforcement. Career pathways could include: youth and community development law enforcement corrections and probation health.

Entry requirements

For international students

Applicants must have completed New Zealand University Entrance through NCEA; or Cambridge International Examinations (CIE); or International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) or any other equivalent overseas qualification.

Applicants must also satisfy our English language entry requirements:

  • IELTS (Academic): Academic with an average score of 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
  • TOEFL (IBT): Total minimum score of 80, with at least 19 in reading, writing and listening. Please note UC only accepts TOEFL iBT scores from a single test date, not My Best scores.
  • PTE (Pearson Test of English - Academic): PTE with an overall score of 50 and no PTE communicative skills score below 42.
  • CAE or CPE: Minimum score of 169 with at least 162 in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
  • CCEL EAP: Level 2 with a minimum C+ grade.
  • Language Cert: B2 Communicator (LRWS) overall with High Pass.
