What will I learn?

The world faces urgent environmental challenges. Tackling them calls for collaboration across multiple perspectives. The Bachelor of Environment and Society prepares you to understand and address environmental issues from a range of viewpoints. At the same time, it deepens your expertise in a specialist subject. This three-year degree builds your understanding of both the social and the biophysical dimensions of environmental change. You’ll learn to think critically about the causes and effects of environmental problems, based on a firm grasp of the physical processes shaping our world.Through the BEnvSoc, you’ll explore key concepts like sustainability and justice. You’ll ask how Indigenous environmental knowledge can guide our approach to environmental problems. And you’ll apply your knowledge across a range of scales-from local issues in environmental management to global issues of climate change and inequality. With this degree, you’ll gain the skills to make a meaningful difference and turn your passion into action.

Entry requirements

For international students

A LEVELS - Three GCE Advanced Level passes; one subject must be at grade C or higher. INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE - Achievement of the Diploma. A grade of 3 or higher in Higher Level. English A or B; or a grade of 5 or higher in Standard Level English A fulfils the English-language requirement. Successful completion of a one-year qualification rated Level 4 or higher by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority and taught by a New Zealand polytechnic or university; or successful completion of one year of full-time study towards such a qualification, with at least a B average Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE, New Zealand) – Gain a minimum of 120 points on the New Zealand Tariff Score table, and a minimum grade of D in each of at least three subjects equivalent to those in the approved subjects list for NCEA at AS or A level. Gain a minimum D pass in IGCSE Mathematics and a minimum E pass in AS English Language or AS English Literature.
