Summary

The programme is designed to introduce students to a broad range of topics associated with horticultural technology, production and management. Students also have the opportunity to develop applied computing and problem solving skills. The Diploma study programme is prescribed (ie all courses are compulsory) and comprises of eight courses covering computing, propagation, horticultural management system, soils, plants studies and engineering. It is possible to take this diploma either on or off the Lincoln campus.

Practical Work
A period of Practical Work is a requirement of this qualification.

A summary of requirements is provided:
• 12 weeks in total on at least two different types of horticultural units.

Entry requirement for international students

One of the following:

  • A qualification equivalent to NCEA Level 2
  • A National Certificate in Horticulture at Level 4 or higher obtained through an approved polytechnic institution (or equivalent).

If English is not your first language, you will need to demonstrate that your English is good enough to study successfully at university. Lincoln University recognises achievement through a limited number of recognised tests of English Language. Below are the minimum standards for entry to the programme:

IELTS academic score of 6.0 overall, with no individual component less than 5.5
TOEFL (iBT) overall score of 60 (with at least 18 in writing)
Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) and First (FCE) overall score of 169, with no individual component less than 162
Pearson Test of English (Academic) overall score of 50 with no communicative skills score less than 42
Lincoln University English Language LU EL 65%.
