What will I learn?

Physics aims to understand the behaviour of matter and energy from the scale of subatomic particles to that of the Universe itself. From computers to communication systems, architecture to agriculture modern life is overwhelmingly built using the understanding of nature that physics provides. We are currently in an incredibly exciting period in Physics. The technological advances of the last 20 years have had an enormous impact on all our lives and almost all of these rely on advances in Physics. Modern physics provides a framework for understanding – and contributing to – major advances in technology now and in the future.

Entry requirements

For international students

Enrolment in a PhD requires completion of a research-focused honours or masters degree, at First or Second Class (Division I) Honours or Distinction level (or equivalent qualifications).Applicants with qualifications from outside Aotearoa New Zealand must have been granted admission to the University. Our admissions team, in consultation with the host department, look at your qualifications and transcripts to ensure that you have the background required to complete a PhD. It is possible that you may be required to complete preparatory courses prior to or after admission into a PhD programme.IELTS: An average score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in reading, writing, listening and speakingTOEFL iBT :Total minimum score of 90, minimum score of 19 in reading, writing and listening
