The MEngSt allows students with academic engineering backgrounds to expand their existing theoretical and practical skills. Entry requirement for international students

Taught 120 points or Research 120 points:

You must have completed a four-year bachelor’s degree in engineering at a recognised university (or similar institution) that includes:

Broad coverage in your first year of the foundational science topics that underpin engineering disciplines: mathematical modelling, chemical and materials science, electrical engineering theory, mechanics, programming, and engineering design.
One year of postgraduate-level study
a research project or dissertation comprising at least one-quarter of the final year.

Taught 180 points:

You must have completed an undergraduate engineering degree at a recognised university (or similar institution), in a field similar to your intended specialisation.

You will need a GPE of 4.0.

IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 6.5; Internet-based TOEFL (iBT): Overall score of 90 and written score of 21; Paper-based TOEFL: Overall score of 68 and a writing score of 21; Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) or Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE): Overall score of 176 and no bands below 169; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: Overall score of 58 and no PTE Communicative score below 50; Foundation Certificate in English for Academic Purposes (FCertEAP): Grade of B-; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB): 85.

Value of scholarship

Covers: tuition fees; airfare from the scholar's home country to Auckland, New Zealand; basic cost of living in Auckland; health and medical insurance in New Zealand; airfare from Auckland, New Zealand, to the scholar's home country at the conclusion of his or her course of study. For scholars engaged in research, a special grant may be available for thesis preparation

To be considered for the scholarship, you must submit the following documentation prior to the closing date:

  • Completed ADB-JSP Information Sheet 
  • Academic documentation – both academic transcripts and degree certificates
  • Certificate of Employment for the duration of employment issued by the company
  • Certificate of Income issued by the company 
  • Certificate of Family Income issued by the company. Must be either your parents or spouses annual/monthly income.
  • Copy of your Passport
  • Valid IELTS test

Eligibility requirements:

Eligible applicants must be / have:

  • A national of an ADB borrowing member
  • Gained admission to an approved masters at an approved academic institution
  • A bachelors degree or its equivalent with superior academic record
  • At least two years of full-time professional work experience (acquired after a university degree) at the time of application
  • Proficiency in oral and written English communication skills to be able to pursue studies
  • Under 35 years old at the time of application. In exceptional cases, for programmes which are appropriate for senior officials and managers, the age limit is 45 years
  • In good health
  • Agree to return to your home country after completing the programme.

Ineligible: Executive Directors, Alternate Directors, management and staff of ADB, consultants, and relatives of the aforementioned; staff of JSP-designated institutions are not eligible to apply to their own institution; applicants living or working in a country other than his/her home country; applicants who are already enrolled in graduate degree programmes or who have already completed graduate degree programmes; undergraduate studies, distance learning programmes, short-term training, conferences, seminars, thesis writing, and research projects.
