What will I learn?

Get the knowledge and skills to work as a skipper.This programme is suitable if you would like to progress to the role of skipper on a restricted limits vessel and:Are working as deck crew orHave suitable experience as a skipper on a recreational vessel.You will need to have access to a suitable vessel to complete the Maritime New Zealand (MNZ) approved Training Record Book (TRB).You'll learn the skills and knowledge required to safely plan a passage, and operate and maintain a vessel less than 24 metres in length within restricted limits.

Entry requirements

For international students

Entry to this qualification is open but completion does not guarantee the award of a Maritime New Zealand license.

General

Applicants are required to complete Year 12 or equivalent of secondary school.

Entry requirements vary from country to country.

IELTS test: Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5; TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT): Score of 530 (with an essay score of 4.5 TWE); TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT): Score of 46 (with a writing score of 14); Cambridge English Examinations: B2 First or B2 First for schools with a score of 162. No less than 154 in each skill; OET - Minimum of Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests; Pearson Test of English (Academic): PTE (Academic) score of 42 with no band score lower than 36.
