As a graduate of this qualification you will be able to:

  • Perform client consultations, including hair and scalp analysis in relation to chemical services
  • Recommend home hair care products to meet a range of client needs
  • Perform complex styling tasks, including blow waving, finger waving, setting and long hair-ups
  • Perform foundation scissor and razor cutting services
  • Select colour and perform a range of colouring and de-colouring services
  • Assist colleagues with a range of chemical reformation services, including application and neutralising

Education pathway

Graduates who wish to further specialise can enrol into the New Zealand Certificate in Hairdressing (Professional Stylist) (Level 4) (Not offered by UCOL).

Entry requirements

For international students

New Zealand Certificate in Hairdressing (Salon Support) or equivalent knowledge and skills.

International student applicants whose first language is not English must have an IELTS General or Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5 (or equivalent including TOEFL). IELTS scores used must be taken from a single IELTS Test Report Form (i.e. combining scores from more than one test is not permissible). TOEFL (iBT): Score of 46 (with a writing score of 14); Cambridge B2 First (for Schools), C1 Advanced, C2 Proficiency: B2 with score of 162; no less than 154 in each skill; OET: Minimum Grade C or 200 in all subtests; PToE (Academic) score of 42 with no band less than 36.
