UTP: Product Design is the equivalent to the first year of your undergraduate Product Design degree. Upon completion of the programme you will be eligible to progress* to the second year of the Bachelor of Product Design degree.**

UC is leading the way with its multidisciplinary Bachelor of Product Design. Product Design combines creative design, science, engineering, and business studies. Product designers plan and develop items for use in homes, businesses, and industry.
Chemical-based products that are used by everyone in an every day basis contain chemical, physical, and functional properties which have been specially determined and envisaged by its manufacturers at the start of the product’s formulation. By specialising in Chemical, Natural and Healthcare Formulation, you get to gain the skills to create practical goods for every day consumption, such as personal care products, cosmetics, nutraceuticals, and pharmaceutical products.

UTP Product Design is a set programme of study. Students will study seven courses from the following subject areas. Note: Not all subjects will be offered every semester and failure to pass a required course will result in a delay in completion of studies.

Entry requirement for international students

Entry into the UTP generally requires the successful completion of Year 12 of secondary school or its equivalent (this is equivalent to Year 13 in the New Zealand education system).

NCEA Level 3 or equivalent qualification: 12 credits in Mathematics (including both 91578 - differentiation and 91579 - integration), 12 credits in Physics (if required for intended major) and 10 credits in one or two other University Entrance approved subjects

Entry requirements vary from country to country.

English Language Requirements:

IELTS (Academic: Overall 5.5. All band scores minimum of 5.0

TOEFL Internet based test (iBT): 46 with a minimum writing score of 14

Cambridge English Qualification - B2 First or B2 First for schools: Score of 162. No less than 154 in each skill

OET (Occupational English Test): Grade C in all sub-tests

Pearson Test of English (Academic): Score of 42 with no band score lower than 36

LanguageCert: B2 Communicator IESOL (LRWS) with HIGH PASS and no less than PASS in each skill

Trinity ISE: ISE II with no less than merit in any band

Certificate of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA): Qualification completed and awarded
