What will I learn?

This programme develops knowledge, strategic thinking, research and communication skills needed to succeed in this rapidly growing industry. You will learn advanced security programming and techniques, and understand strategies in information protection and coding, to ensure correctness, security and data authenticity.

Cyber-crime has also posed a real and persistent threat to any organisation whose online system has to offer convenient access to legitimate users, and yet be secure enough to prevent hacking and theft.

The knowledge, research and strategic thinking skills developed through the Digital Systems Security programme are needed to succeed in this rapidly growing industry, ensuring privacy and preventing crimes.

Study Opportunities (offered by UOW in Australia)

Students in the UOW programme at SIM are eligible to transfer to Wollongong campus but subject to separate application and enrolment process. Graduates can apply to enrol in the Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons) programme at Wollongong campus.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Students must have three GCE 'A' Level passes or minimum of 3 H2 level subjects with a pass or above. Advanced 1 – 16 Modules: An RMIT approved non-business diploma from any of the local polytechnics. Advanced 2 – 12 Modules: An RMIT approved relevant business diploma from SIM or any of the local polytechnics. Other qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the university. English Language Requirements: Applicants who have not achieved a minimum of C or better in General Paper at AS/H1 Level or Knowledge and Inquiry at H2 must provide evidence of at least ONE of the following: IELTS (Academic) - 6.5 (no band less than 6.0); TOEFL - Paper-Based = 580 (TWE 4.5); TOEFL - internet-Based Test (iBT) = 92, with minimum of 20 in all sections; Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE(A) = 58 (no communication band less than 50); Cambridge English: (Advanced CAE) (up to 2014) = 58 with no less than 'borderline' in each skill; Cambridge English: (Advanced CAE) 2015 onwards: 176 with no less than 169 in any component; RMIT English Worldwide (REW) Advanced Plus or equivalent; Successful completion of a recognized approved Diploma qualification or higher, where the language of instruction was English. Have successfully studied Singapore Cambridge 'A' levels at a Singaporean high school for at least 2 years and met the academic entry criteria of 3 A/H2 level passes. Other equivalent qualifications approved by RMIT will be considered.

For international students

Entry requirements may vary from country to country. Students are required to complete international academic qualification equivalent to Singapore.

3 GCE ‘A’ level / 3 H2 passes plus 1 H1 pass with a minimum aggregate of 9 points where A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1 (for H1 apply half the value)

Diploma: 3-year diploma from local polytechnic or its equivalent.

English Proficiency Requirements

Applicants with international qualification must meet the University’s English requirement:

IELTS 6.0 (with no band less than 6.0); or

TOEFL 70 (iBT) with at least 18 for Reading & Writing and at least 17 for Speaking & Listening; or

Pearson Test score of at least 54 for English (Academic) (with at least 54 for Reading & Writing

and at least 47 for Speaking & Listening) or equivalent.
