What will I learn?

Engineering Science students will read a set of core engineering science modules in the first two years that will provide a strong background in the fundamentals in engineering, science, materials, mathematics and computing. A portion of the curriculum is set aside for non-engineering modules in areas such as engineering professionalism and critical thinking and writing. These are intended to equip our graduates with the knowledge to function effectively in tomorrow’s workplace. Students will undergo a 12-week research internship during the vacation period following the second or third year of their studies. In the final two years, the curriculum is flexible so that students can pursue interests in any of the following areas of specialisations.

  • Nanoscience and Technology
  • Computational Engineering Science
  • Energy Science and Technology
  • Photonics and Optics
  • Engineering Science in Medicine

These courses are specially designed to reduce the common barriers to multidisciplinary work and bring out creative qualities. Graduates will be conferred a Bachelor of Engineering (Engineering Science) degree.

ESP Objectives:

The objectives of ESP are to produce graduates who:

ESP Learning Outcomes:

Engineering Science graduates will be able to:

  • Accurately apply knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  • Set up and conduct experiments, analyse, interpret data and synthesise to establish valid conclusions; confident in hands-on experimentation.
  • Design and fabricate an engineering device by integrating knowledge from different disciplines.
  • Able to conduct research to solve engineering and scientific problems.
  • Proficiently use the techniques, skills as well as modern scientific and engineering tools to solve problems.
  • Communicate effectively.
  • Recognize the need for and have the ability to learn independently, leading to life-long learning.
  • Concerned with and able to assess the impact of engineering solutions on society, public health, safety and sustainable development.
  • Manage and work effectively in teams on multidisciplinary projects.

Applicants should have completed a good pass in at least 3 ‘Advanced’ Level subjects is required for candidates to submit an application. Many applicants submit good passes for 4 or more ‘Advanced’ Level subjects for our consideration. English Language Requirements: EL1119 minimum acceptable score C6; IELTS - 6.5 overall with 6.5 in Reading and Writing components; MUET-200; TOEFL - 580 for paper-based / 92-93 for internet-based.

For international students

Applicants should have completed a high school.
