What will I learn?

The Bachelor of Engineering (Materials Engineering) programme in NTU is an integrated science-driven and application oriented engineering education in advanced materials for cutting edge technologies.

Materials Science and Engineering is a discipline that is broadly based in engineering mathematics and all aspect of sciences (chemistry, physics and biology). Our students learn about the basic structure and properties of materials, and understand how materials can be processed and modified to make the products of modern technology more durable, faster, lighter and better suited to human needs.

Our students will also get to discover and learn about nanomaterials for cancer treatment, biodegradable materials for biomedical devices, advanced functional materials for defence systems and sporting equipment and apparels, new eco-materials for our environment, nano-electronic materials for future IC chips and many more.

Career Prospects of Our Graduates

MSE graduates are employed in a wide spectrum of industries and roles. They are highly sought for and moved on to sectors such as technology, defence, aerospace, oil & gas, biomedical & pharmaceutical, manufacturing, electronics, offshore & marine, environmental-related, as well as academia. A good acumen in innovation could also lead to a technology-based entrepreneurial career.

Entry requirements

For international students

International students must have completed at least 12 years of general education or will be taking High School national examinations in the year of application in order to be considered for admission. In addition to fulfilling the minimum entry requirements, applicants must also satisfy the minimum subject requirements:

  • A pass in Mathematics and Physics / Chemistry / Biology at Senior High School Level / IB Higher Level.
  • A pass in Physics at Junior High School Level / IB Standard Level is required for applicants who have not read
  • Senior High School Level /IB Higher Level Physics

Submission of IELTS (a minimum Overall 6, writing 6) or TOEFL (a minimum of 90) or SAT (a minimum of 1250 for SAT taken for March 2016 onwards) or Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) (a minimum of 55) or ACT with Writing (a minimum of composite score of 30 in ACT with Writing in one sitting) or Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) are only compulsory for applicants

With PRC Gao Kao qualification (i.e. Applicants who will be taking Gao Kao in June 2020 and those who have already taken Gao Kao) OR

With Taiwan General Scholastic Ability Test (GSAT) qualification OR

With South Korean College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT)/High School Diploma qualification OR

Who do not take up English language in Junior and Senior High School or taken English language only as a 2nd language.

For IELTS, TOEFL and PTE Academic, only scores obtained in the 2 years leading up to the application deadline will be considered. The validity period for SAT and ACT is 5 years.
