A broad range of media skills to widen career opportunities
Always fancied you a reporter for Chinese-language newspapers, magazines or online media? Want to make it big as a radio deejay or TV news presenter? Then the Diploma in Chinese Media & Communication (CMC) is right up your alley.
With more than half of the curriculum taught in Chinese, you are on the fast track to becoming a leading bilingual media practitioner well-versed in Chinese-language print, broadcast and online media industries.
In your first year, you will be trained in writing and presentation skills in both Chinese and English, thus laying a strong foundation for a future career as content producers for different media platforms. You will also be exposed to mass media and its role in modern society. Plus, you will gain practical skills in web and print design, video production, and journalism.
In your second year, hone your skills in advertising, public relations and media research. You will also attend off-campus classes, for example, at Singapore Media Academy to learn TV studio production skills and sharpen your media presentation skills.
In your final year, you will spend a semester interning at top local media companies such as Singapore Press Holdings and MediaCorp, and another semester working on a final-year project in your area of interest. You can also look forward to the Overseas Media Exposure programme that will broaden your understanding of the regional Chinese-language media industries, and prepare you for the globalised working environment.
Careers
The most popular TV and radio stations in Singapore are the Chinese channels. With China's rising global prominence, there is also a growing demand for Chinese media content producers all around the world.
