What will I learn?

Through Design Thinking, innovative teaching and industry-linked projects, you will discover the world of food - from raw materials to ingredients, processes and packaging to finished consumer products! As a food scientist or technologist, you can play an important role in making our foods more appealing yet healthier and safer!

By honing your skills through basic science modules and uncovering the mysteries of food in Year 1. In Year 2, you will integrate your food science knowledge through opportunities in ideating food concepts, performing sensory evaluation and conducting shelf-life studies, to transform raw materials into consumer focused end-products. In Year 3, you develop processes and design food packaging that reduce food wastage and achieve sustainability of future food products. You can do this by choosing your DFST path through internship or through actual experience by taking a B.I.T.E. (Business design Infused with Technology Experience) in commercial projects.

Entry requirements

For international students

Applicants must have obtained the following qualification: GCE 'O' Levels, relevant Institute of Technical Education Higher NITEC (ITC/CBS) qualifications, or relevant Institute of Technical Education NITEC (NTC2) qualifications (with minimum GCE 'N' Level qualifications). A 'B' average overall would be minimally sufficient for candidates to make a competitive application. those from Integrated Programme (IP) Schools in Singapore who have completed the equivalent of Sec 4 as well as those who have graduated from IP schools can be considered for admission; eligibility is similar to GCE 'O' level; for those who have completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma, the entry requirements are minimum Grade 4 for English (1st Lang) except for Creative Writing for Television and New Media and Media and Communication courses where a Grade 5 (1st Lang) is required, minimum Grade 5 for Mathematics, minimum Grade 5 for relevant subject, overall aggregate should be at least 22 (based on 5 subjects including English, Mathematics and relevant subject); or equivalent qualification. Students from other countries should have country specific requirements equivalent to Singapore. Also they must fulfill the following English language requirements: TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based) or 79 (internet-based); or IELTS (International English Language Testing System - overall minimum 6.0; for China qualifications 6.0 is also required for reading and speaking components), or passes English language entrance test.
