Do you have your pulse on the property beat? Are you a quick-thinker with a keen sense of intuition for trends in the fast-paced industry of land planning and estate redevelopment? Look no further – the Diploma in Real Estate Business (REB) is well-equipped to train you in both the business and management aspects of the industry.
The course will give you the necessary skillsets to help property owners, investors and tenants maximise the use of their properties to achieve the highest financial returns. You will also play a role in the strategic marketing and management of shopping centres, integrated resorts and theme parks as well as the valuation of residential, office and retail properties.
In your first year, you will learn the fundamentals of real estate business and building management through modules such as Real Estate Market Research and Building Technology.
In your second year, you will move on to learn about the management, marketing, financial and legal aspects of real estate. You will also gain an appreciation of interior design and learn how to conduct property valuation.
In your final year, you will be taught real estate investment alongside other aspects of building management such as building maintenance and refurbishment and quantity surveying. You will also undertake an internship or an industry-based project.
Plus, you may get to go on overseas study tours to major cities such as Shanghai, Hong Kong and Melbourne. There will also be local field trips that let you gain industry insights from property gurus.
Careers
With this diploma, you can find jobs in all sectors of the real estate market and building industry. You will also be able to work with finance and investment companies that deal in property assets.
You can take on the role of an executive overseeing property investment, management, marketing, planning and redevelopment, finance and housing loans, property valuation and much more. Alternatively, you can become a project supervisor or quantity surveyor.
Potential employers include government departments, regulatory authorities and statutory boards, banks, property development and investment companies, real estate consultancies, town councils, construction companies and chartered surveying practices.
With a few years of experience under your belt, you can also apply for an Estate Agent Licence issued by the Council for Estate Agencies.
You may enjoy up to one year of module exemptions when you pursue degrees in real estate or project & facilities management at the National University of Singapore. Overseas universities also accept REB graduates into related bachelor’s degree programmes with advanced standing:

Subject : English Language as a First Language: 1–7 ('O' Level Grade); Mathematics (Elementary/Additional): 1–6 ('O' Level Grade); Science (with Physics, Chemistry or Biology component) or Biotechnology or Computer Studies or Design & Technology or Design Studies or Fundamentals of Electronics: 1–6 ('O' Level Grade)
