What will I learn?

The M.A. by Coursework programme is structured around course requirements with no dissertation requirement. Students will be expecting programmes to involve attendance at formal classes, seminars, laboratories and written examinations. As part of the assignments, some modules also require the candidate to undertake a project.

The curriculum is designed to provide a high quality and comprehensive learning experience for students with a multi-disciplinary Chinese Studies background.

Program Structure:

Level 5000/6000 (At least 8 modules) + Level 4000 (At most 2 modules

Optional: 2 modules from another department/faculty

Students will have to read 10 modules in total and are not required to write a dissertation.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants require a Bachelor’s degree with honours or equivalent, in a relevant discipline; or a Bachelor’s degree with a relevant Graduate Diploma/Graduate Certificate with a minimum CAP of 3.00. English Language Requirements: TOEFL score is required: 85 for the internet-based test (with a minimum score of 22 for the writing section); or 580 for the paper-based test; or 237 for the computer-based test; an IELTS score of 6.0.

For international students

Students intending to read Master of Arts (Chinese Studies) coursework programme must fulfil any of the following:

An NUS Honours degree (Second Class and above) or equivalent (e.g., a four-year Bachelors degree with at least an average grade of B or equivalent) in the subject or related field;

OR

A good Bachelors degree (at least an average grade of B or equivalent) in the subject or related field and successful completion of a placement test; or exceptionally;

OR

Other qualifications and experience subject to approval by the Board of Graduate Studies
