What will I learn?

The programme will provide the residents with–

  • opportunities to manage and treat patients assigned to them to cover a wide range of cases in each specialty;
  • the ability to carry out independent research investigations and critically evaluate scientific publications;
  • the ability to effectively interfaced with other specialties and disciplines in the care of patients requiring interdisciplinary therapy.

Objectives and Goals:

The main objectives of the graduate school are:

  • To provide residency training programmes leading to postgraduate qualification in dentistry.
  • To promote continuing dental education.
  • To develop research in dentistry.

The Division offers structured residency training programmes, leading to Master of Dental Surgery (MDS), in the following six specialties:

  • Endodontics
  • Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
  • Orthodontics
  • Paediatric Dentistry
  • Periodontology
  • Prosthodontics

The resident will attend a course in basic medical sciences, advanced fixed prosthodontics, removable denture prosthodontics, maxillo-facial and implant prosthodontics.

At the end of the training, a resident will:

  • have had a scientific foundation for clinical and technical skill;
  • be proficient in diagnosis, planning and treatment of patients with prosthodontic problems;
  • be proficient in laboratory skills enough to evaluate technical work, communicate with technicians and be able to train others in these skills;
  • be effectively interfaced with other specialties and disciplines in the care of patients requiring interdisciplinary therapy; and
  • be able to conduct independent research.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants require a Bachelor’s degree with honours or equivalent, in a relevant discipline; or a Bachelor’s degree with a relevant Graduate Diploma/Graduate Certificate with a minimum CAP of 3.00. English Language Requirements: TOEFL score is required: 85 for the internet-based test (with a minimum score of 22 for the writing section); or 580 for the paper-based test; or 237 for the computer-based test; an IELTS score of 6.0.

For international students

Students must hold a basic dental degree qualification (Bachelor of Dental Surgery or equivalent); Have at least two years full-time clinical experience in general dentistry after graduation (excluding internship); Complete the TOEFL or IELTS if the native tongue or medium of undergraduate instruction is not English. The minimum acceptable scores are: TOEFL score – 580 (paper-based), 237 (computer-based), 92 (internet-based) and above or IELTS – 7.
